Difference between fitness bike and road bike
Although you may think that you know the difference but this might not be the case.
In fact, you may have a ride but you are not sure whether it’s a fitness bicycle or a road bike.
While road bikes are basically for cycling on the roads, a fitness bike or hybrid is meant to cater for almost all your cycling needs.
When it comes to the weight a fitness bike will weigh a lot more than a road bicycle.
Also, the gears on a road bike are often aimed at sports cyclists hence, they always have the perfect ratios to make ascending over the hills as effortless as possible.
Alternatively, the gear ratios found on fitness bikes are more or less meant for cycling along a flat trail.
Features of fitness bikes
· As compared to road bikes they are priced lower.
· Have the same diameter wheels on the roads.
· Have wheels, components, and lightweight frame making them efficient over long distances
· Have small tread tyres that reduce rolling distance allowing you to use less energy, especially when riding on smooth trails.
· To maximize speed and reduce weight, they have a rigid fox.
Downside of purchasing a fitness bike
For a normal ride, any bike can actually do the trick especially if the distance is less than 9 kilometers.
This is due to the fact it’s hard to feel any pain on a bike that fits you in such a short distance. However, fitness bikes are the kind of bikes that do not have any real benefits.
Remember, most people are not going to ride them off the road. An added weight in these bikes can make your cycling very uncomfortable especially if you are riding over longer distances.
More so, the knobby tyres that come with them make them have poor road handling characteristics which can result in less traction on the road.
Therefore, if you have the option to choose a fitness or road bike, it’s much better to go for the latter.
